alike.

Osprey is home to the world renowned Pine
View, a gifted school for grades two through twelve on a
broad-based campus. Pine View School, established in 1969,
is Sarasota County's public school for intellectually gifted
students.
Osprey is home to Historic Spanish Point,
a 30-acre site which juts into the waters of Little Sarasota
Bay. It is bordered by mangroves on its west and pine
flatwoods (and a residential neighborhood) to the east.
Historic Spanish Point was first occupied as early as 3,000
BC, as evidenced by a prehistoric Calusa Indian burial mound
and two shell mounds. Historic Spanish Point was named for
the Spanish and Cuban sailors and traders who paid regular
commercial visits to the area. It was later discovered and
developed by Bertha Honore Palmer.
